A dock & system tray as one bar like KDE & Windows. So far most rices I’ve seen have docks and system trays separate, or even don’t have a dock at all. I’m wondering if there any projects that already implemented this, before I would look at doing it myself with something like AGS or ewww. I’m on Hyprland.
If I’m understanding you aright — you want things to monitor your system as well as a system tray to let other software stick icons in — I think that the norm, dating back to X11, is to have an applet for the dock/wharf/bar/whatever-you-call-it that provides a system tray.
I’m currently using waybar in sway, and it has a system tray function and supports hyprland. The only programs I can think of off the top of my head that I’ve used that have applets that don’t are conky and GKrellM.
You can run the LXQt Wayland Session with Hyprland as compositor. You can also forget about the session and just run the panel in a startup command or a systemd service, although I’m not sure if all widgets will work correctly this way.
XFCE also has experimental Wayland support; Hyprland isn’t officially supported but IIRC it uses the same wlroots protocols as the supported Labwc so it should work. Documentation is fairly sparse even compared to LXQt though and it’s a bit buggy, I personally haven’t gotten it to work (but others have so it’s definitely possible).
Edit: Also, Waybar has task bar widgets too. But it doesn’t support any kinds of “popup” like start menus or control centers, you just have the bar.
