True, that is surprising and makes everything worse. It’s probably controlled by a setting that none of those engineers knows how to change, based on the lack of knowledge described here.

Or write a tool that can do all these steps for you, reliably!
This sounds 100% credible, based on the outcomes we can see
Sounds like classic junior engineer shit. “Let’s do a big rewrite!” Followed by everything going to shit because they don’t how to create good maintainable software architecture and for whatever reason there weren’t enough senior engineers around to show them the way.
Seriously, it doesn’t sound great, but it sounds about what you might expect wiring up a new UI widget in WPF or whatever the latest thing for native Windows is. Sounds like what would happen if you started developing a Windows app using the Microsoft scaffolding and never applied any kind of software architecture beyond that and it just grew and grew into a big ball of mud. Exactly what I would expect given the quality of so many of their frameworks, and I say that as a professional dotnet software engineer.
🎼 My boys are otherwise engaged, so I’m gonna have to bring it all myself now 🎵
I’ve been there. It’s great!
I’m so confused by this whole thread because I built a brand new computer with cutting edge parts just this year and installed Mint and everything just worked except the GPU, which I had to add a PPA for. Well, that and my HDR monitor isn’t supported, but AFAICT that’s pretty much true across all distorts.
LLM got jokes! This had me in tears. Best AI response I’ve ever read hands down.
Are you saying that you want to separate your two logical sections by having different levels of indentation and that’s what makes Python go crazy?
Since it’s a superset of JSON, couldn’t you just use the JSON notation if you hate the semantic whitespace?
Where I work, Senior Engineer is an IC role. They attend the same meetings as other engineers. Its the Staff+ Engineers and managers that attend more meetings (in ascending order)
It just seems like a strange place to go on fire
Yes, for me the happy medium is to learn and use Vim emulation within your IDE of choice. Purists will object that Vim emulators offer inconsistent levels of support, but in my experience they all offer support for the core functionality plus varying extras. For those who already have Vim fully configured for their workflow and preferences, there is no substitute. But for anyone else, Vim emulation in an IDE is a great way to level up your text editing powers.
What does this even mean, “a world without shells”? What is running inside this newfangled terminal if not a shell?
