Keep in mind that VPSs will charge for bandwidth, which adds up quickly when you’re streaming.

One suggestion I haven’t seen mentioned is contacting your ISP. Sometimes you can get a dedicated IP, although you might have to pay for it.

Alternatively you might just break down and pay for Plex Pass. I know that goes against the Lemmy philosophy to the very core, but for all its issues, Plex is still way ahead of Jellyfin in terms of features, UI/UX, etc. Jellyfin will get there, and I’m ready to switch the day that Plex becomes unusable, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Aside from future-proofing, can I ask why this is important? I believe you that it is, I’m just curious.

Thank you!! I’m trying it out now and it’s definitely very promising. I love the swipe on backspace to select and delete. I do wish it had long press on backspace to delete a single word. That plus lowering the long press time makes it so easy to make corrections.

I hate how good SwiftKey’s autocorrect is. I’m definitely on the hunt for a good alternative in this thread.

I’d like to think he was just trying to be respectful of the author, probably having worked quite a bit together. But he changed his mind pretty quickly when he saw the original author had totally checked out. Maybe that’s a generous reading though.

I think if they were using a private IP, there wouldn’t really be a joke. Of course the router can resolve an IP in its network. The joke is that they’re using their public IP from inside their network, and when the request gets the router, instead of resolving externally, it resolves to the public IP of the router itself.

If the router supports hairpinning, the IP request can be resolved locally.

The domain name lookup would be a different issue and could potentially need to be resolved externally, but the router’s DNS cache should be able to answer eventually.
