So go start your own business producing these $25,000 machines if it is that easy. Go on then. Clearly you have everything figured out. Your are supposedly worth $75k a week but you’re only getting paid $1k a week. Start your own company and even if you have yourself 10x the salary, you’d still have one of the most profitable companies on the planet.

If it’s that easy, then why aren’t you doing it?

Is it maybe because there are dozens of other people involved in building these machines? It is because the labor to build something doesn’t cover the cost to design and engineer it. And test it. And logistics. And the costs for any regulator certification these machines must go through.

Loving hearing people with all the answers only to find out they really have no answers.

They are laughing at you, not with you.

If they made the spout longer, people would complain that they hit it with their shoes while riding. Or complain that it limits their ability to put on aftermarket pipes. Or some other issue that might be caused by it being longer. It is all about trade-offs.

Of all the options, I think dealing with a little oil on the pipes every 3000 miles or so is reasonable, especially since a piece of tin foil would solve the problem.

Their hardware is mostly brilliant but the software (drivers, DRM) should make it a stop-sale for most people. It is such a shame that what used to be an incredible engineering company has turned to such shit because of executive incompetence and greed.

When you have questions like this, the answer is almost always money.

For this particular question, it is money - the cost of the LEDs (which is of course minimal, but multiplied by millions of phones), but also manufacturing (need to have a hole in the case to let the LED shine though which can let water ingress into phone). To make those holes water tight would add more cost so instead they decided to use the screen itself as the notification method. I think Motorola’s implementation of this was the best - they had their always on display to show notifications and a single tap would let you see what the message was even if the phone was locked.
