Surprised this isn’t mentioned more because it’s one of the only true alternatives for all the google feature-set.

You should look at JTX Board. It’s associated with DAVx5 and they do the vjournal and vtodo standards. They have a list of services that support it. https://jtx.techbee.at/sync-with-davx5
The guy who founded owncloud (Frank), sold it to american venture capitalists. When Frank didn’t like how the VCs were planning to enshittify Owncloud, he forked the project and moved it back to Germany from Boston. The American VCs saw this, realized they couldn’t exploit the software anymore, so they sold Owncloud to a group of German businessmen. Ironically for Frank there are now two german owned non-VC backed cloud software based on the same code. But yeah they’re taking different strategic paths for growth.
Between the two I recommend OnlyOffice because it has better export compatibility, a PDF editor, seamless interchange between their desktop, mobile, and web versions, and a nicer UI. You’d only need LibreOffice if you’re doing very advanced document formatting or very niche scientific or financial formulas. LibreOffice has been around for a lot longer than OnlyOffice so its got more edge use cases figured out. Onlyoffice is more modern and IMO feels like a smoother experience with the UI.
OnlyOffice, Affine.Pro
Some suggestions;
license it in GPL or another copyleft license so that future contributors will contribute back to the source and not just take what they want and leave. A lot of issues with open source projects not being maintained is because people will spin up an MIT or BSD license and then people, corporate employees, etc. just grab what they want and never contribute back.
document all of your code ad nauseum so whoever wants to take over can understand everything easily. That way minimizes NIH syndrome or feeling like it’s easier just to restart.
before you turn off the lights, leave a roadmap.
Bazqux through the browser works great.
Fair points. Though how could you say for sure that WhatsApp doesn’t have a backdoor in place?
USA, Germany, Russia, Iran, China, Brazil, and other have tried to or have banned Telegram at various points of time in the past decade because of their concern they can’t access Telegram data. You can’t say the same for WhatsApp. That suggests WhatsApp isn’t as secure as they say.
I would suggest using something easier like Linux Mint next time you give Linux a try.
I looked at options late last year and it’s All Trails or some other smaller proprietary communities. Would be nice if there was a FOSS community, I’d be concerned if All Trails started taking all that data and charging for access.
I’m more interested in Affine.pro and AppFlowy that serve the same use case. Both will offer encryption, both FOSS.
There’s also SiYuan (E2EE) which is a FOSS version of Obsidian but it doesn’t ha e the database table feature that AppFlowy and Affine are developing.
Anytype has been hyped for at least 4 years now and I keep waiting for something useable, I think they’re wasting FOSS community energy.
Maybe I’m unlucky
The door close button does nothing in Canada but in the middle east it actually works immediately. I was shocked when I tried in the middle east I used to just do it for fun in Canada.
I’m using it for notes yeah. I switched from Obsidian to it, but it’s still missing some features, for example their table functionality isn’t up to par with Notion or AppFlowy yet.
Certainly can be more than one.
The downloadable version (canary) is a bit more polished.
It is FOSS, it’s MPL licensed and the source code is on github.
Public Money, Public Code. All governments should only be using FOSS software.
