This is fucking ridiculous…

So they installed all this surveillance for no reason… Damn…
I am once again called to praise orgzly.
The idea is simple, it keeps all your info in plain text files on device. It allows tags for whatever you need, recipes, articles, books to read, whatever you like.
Keeping it in sync with a PC is possible in several ways, I use syncthing.
It is for sure not the easiest solution, but it’s all open source, all plain text and gets the work done.
P.S. on PC I use logseq to edit my org files, but there are other options.
P.S.2 I read the question again and I had missed the part with the e-reader. I doubt my approach will help there, but I will leave the comment in case it is helpful to someone.
I use my note taking app with a specific tag for “read later”

Or people willing to have their children for some reason…

Not about technology

Had this link in my clipboard for a different comment but it fits here as well: https://hackaday.com/2025/04/09/self-hosting-a-cluster-on-old-phones/
In all honesty this may be a bit advanced depending on your experience and more importantly nerves, but any old PC/laptop can be turned into a server.
As for parameters I would suggest you go to the apps you plan on running and check their minimum requirements.
How the mighty have fallen
I would love to live in a world where you can afford to just not deal with extremists.
Overall agree, but I would like to add that radical parties and violent action IMO will not solve any problem alone, there is also please for peaceful protests, for writing manifestos, for writing license agreements and of course for writing open source code.
I don’t want to discourage you, so go for it, it may be fun and you may learn some things or at least think on difficult topics like:
How do you measure human suffering?
How do you deal with extremists that truly believe their cause?
And maybe most interesting what if the radicals are not wrong? (Talking about topics like climate change or overthrowing oppressive regimes)
If this can give you hope I cope by knowing that open source at least sometimes levels the field for the disadvantaged. Like the situation with Deepseek and openAI

I am looking into zen and librewolf, both are forks of Firefox tho.

Wasn’t that exactly the premise of the later Westworld seasons?

Bump and definitely saving this thread!

Another way to say this is that a hacker needs only access to your private network to gain control of all connected devices.
IMO this is hardly worth it when the benefits are I can check my oven remotely or I can check what the vacuum is doing.
I tend to not buy connected devices if it can be avoided.

And what if someone else downloads the app and turns in on?
Out of the loop here, what sucks for the zed team?
