I don’t see how UBI would materially worsen the lives of the chronically ill and those who cannot sell their labor. It’s essentially universal welfare that allows anyone to survive whether they sell their labor or not. That gives you the ability to leave a job that is exploiting you. Without UBI losing your job means potentially becoming homeless.
I’d say that it isn’t far enough, sure. I’d also say that food and shelter should be considered universal human rights that everyone has to by law have access to regardless of their circumstances. Which would itself provide many of the same benefits as UBI.
As an anarchist and a socialist I’d change almost everything about the way the current world functions. But as a direct thing that would improve the lives of almost everyone, I am very much in favor of UBI.
It’s interesting. Needs some more formatting options imo. I liked how in boost for reddit the titles of posts were always at least as big as the preview of the body of the post. Just makes it look much cleaner imo. Could use a font size option. Could use some color options too eventually.
Also, it needs a “Subscribed” page. Default lemmy has this page that only shows you content from communities youre subscribed to. You should see about getting that feed on your app.
Overall though great work, it looks really promising thus far and I’m impressed with how quickly you’ve put this together.
Having a directional antenna is great. If you check the logs on your modem you should be able to see the identifier for the tower you’re connecting to. Using that you can pinpoint it’s location. If you’re really dedicated you can build a tower outside to put a directional antenna above the tree line.
Or at least, that’s what we would have technicians do for customers in rural areas.
Muting means other people can still comment on your stuff, and everyone else but you can see it.
Its so transphobes and homophobes can continue commenting on LGBT people’s content.
They might not care about the 3rd party apps themselves, but having massive functioning communities would be near impossible using only the official moderating tools. The quality of the website is going to diminish a lot. A lot of niche communities have only a handful of spare time moderators that benefit greatly from the 3rd party api. It’s not possible to say the exact scope of problems until the day comes, but by most accounts it’s going to be a massive hit.
There’s also the possibility of existing apps being reworked for lemmy, ive seen that discussed a lot over the last couple days.
Nah. Cool that you think that, though. The moment they started charging for what was a free service, they lost me. I have gigabit internet. The only reason i used their service to begin with was ease of use.
Hot take but maybe everything doesn’t need to be an infinitely expanding business. Just imagine for a second that it’s fine for something to just break even, pay for the few mainteners salaries and not expand the business at all ever. I know that I just uttered the cardinal evil under capitalism but fucking seriously. The primary userbase of plex is pirates. The whole incentive is not having to pay for a streaming service. Charging money for it is just torpedoing your entire userbase. The entire appeal of Plex was it not charging money.
