I just noticed something about this scene from R&M: they have solid color wallpaper. Do people actually do that? I think I only ever saw patterned wallpaper. Also the idea you can just grab the paper in the center implies such a degree of hand strength to be silly.

The same reason merchandise sellers are on Amazon even though Amazon forces them to lower prices and make less: if you’re NOT on Amazon, people just won’t find you. If you’re not on Spotify, you don’t exist in the music world to some people. Because otherwise where else will they search for you? Youtube Music or Apple Music, both pay sites. Otherwise you’re having word of mouth or searching manually.

Any track, not any artist. You could have a hundred tracks getting hundreds of streams a piece. Maximum before cutoff would be about $3/track. Not a ton but could be hundreds of dollars. And combining that from dozens to thousands of artists potentially in that boat.

People aren’t going to do that. They’ll switch to Apple. Linux doesn’t have the presence in public consciousness nor does it have the benefits for average users to matter to them. Tech users don’t need to be converted, they already know.

I’d say so. A lot of investments are in company stock that simply couldn’t be sold legally or without tanking it. I’d say it’s easier to sell your house for a profit than for them to sell significant amounts of those shares. Or even for them to trade them.

You could try. But there’s 2 problems with that. Firstly surviving on your own is extremely difficult. Subsistence farming is hell and without a community often ends in death after a single drought or bad crop.

And secondly the medieval era didn’t have that much empty, unclaimed land that could support either farming or hunting. There were farming communities everywhere there was open space. And old forests in Europe are pretty much entirely man controlled by this point. Poaching was a serious crime because of population control and logging was also controlled.

What I’m saying is, no man is an island and very few could survive as one. There’s a reason we developed society.

I’m confused. Was anyone really considering that Youtube didn’t keep a log of what every account watched even if their history was off? Being cynical, this seems to only add functionality: removing recommendations.

It depends what the device supports. It’s on Apple to implement the standard to the fullest extent the device can utilize. If they don’t implement fast charging, that’s on them. There was a lot of complaints when the Nintendo Switch came out because they didn’t implement all the features.

Expect corporations to be lazy. Just look at how every website handles cookies now. They could do it smartly, limit their cookie exposure, or only send the messages to IPs in the EU. But they just put an “accept all cookies or get out” OK box on your screen. And that’s what they’re going to do once attestation gets popular.

Sites will just require an attestation token and likely only accept ones from Safari and Chromium browsers since those are the ones pushing it. That will effectively make Firefox, Opera and other browsers incompatible with those websites. And once it catches on or becomes law somewhere, it’ll be the entire internet. It’s an extremely anticompetitive measure and it’s internet-wide DRM. Fuck. that.
