I’ll legitimately be moving to Linux today. This just broke the camel’s back for me.

Is Session actually secure though? I know they’re based in Australia, and as an Aussie myself, holy fuck would I not trust this country for even a fraction of a picosecond with anything private or sensitive. We have some of the world’s most draconian and far-reaching digital privacy and surveillance laws, and I’m not ready to accept that Session hasn’t been secretly compromised by the AFP, given the law against revealing government backdoors.

Happy to be proven wrong, but I always err on the side of extreme caution when it comes to Australia. Digitally, we’re closer to the CCP than any of our fellow western nations.

You know, I’m glad I’ll be dead by the time the one world government is formed (not from old age or anything, I’ll just check out early.) EDIT: Actually no, I’ll definitely be dead as fuck either way. Thank god.

Joking, kind of. It’s not like this list is indicative of any true future reality. The direction we’re heading in is WAY worse.

As someone who uses GrapheneOS but knows very little about the technical side of things, what implications does this have for the OS? I’ll actually just not use a smartphone anymore if I’m going to be forced back onto the privacy nightmare that is stock Android.

Keep in mind this is the same guy who said that he idolizes the way Musk has been running Twitter. It’s a real shame, because reddit is the only place I know to get actual real answers from actual real people for generally difficult or otherwise niche questions. I don’t use reddit anymore as a user, but without Google search, reddit is done (given that even ex-users like myself still affix ‘reddit’ to the end of a search query.) I have no idea what Spez is planning, but it can’t be any improvements to his site, because holy shit.

Yep. Pixel, GrapheneOS, be harsh and restrictive with permissions, and intuitive with the apps you install. Simplify your digital life - it’s much easier and less of a hindrance than you’d think.

Genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if this was the truth. The tactics these companies employ are both putridly-covert, yet brilliantly executed - especially so if it also saves a few cents.

I get that people can find him annoying, but that plonker’s video on dashcams actually helped me make a properly informed choice that literally saved me hundreds of dollars AND ensured I got something that actually had higher fidelity recording than many devices multiple times its price.

I agree mostly with this take. There are aspects from that time I’d like to return to, but for the most part, this poll comes across as far too simplified. I do however, think that social media was a massive mistake and has played a major role in the increased division, hostility and hyperpolitical landscape the world now finds itself in, and I’m not sure how we come back from it. I do believe we are far too connected these days, but it isn’t a simple issue.

I personally believe the centralization of social media and the internet in general will be seen as one of the world’s biggest mistakes in the not too distant future, especially once its (already quite apparent) impact on the mental health of the younger generations becomes widely-accepted and acknowledged. I truly wish for an early-00’s internet landscape again, but I know this will never happen.
