Fuck smart tvs. I only use tvs by plugging in my laptop via hdmi. It’s only a matter of time before smart tvs start reporting people for stuff like watching pirated content or voiding TOS’s with adblockers.

Night vision. You can remove the ir filter and then buy or make an infared lightbar and get good night vision that way.

They won’t overheat if you don’t put them in an enclosure or case but this makes them more suseptible to damage. I bet a small pc fan blowing through a custom made 3d printed or wood box would be enough to offset it.

I’ve tried to use esp 32 cameras before. First issue, there are no esp32 cameras that either don’t have ir filters or have ir filters that can be removed. I finally found an Amazon seller that doesn’t glue the camera lenses together very thoroughly and once you break them open, the ir filter is in a place that can be removed if you’re patient enough with an exacto knife.

The other major issue is that esp 32s generate so much heat they eventually melt everything I put them in. You can’t leave them naked because even if it doesn’t rain, they still stop working after only a few days of being outside.

I really hope someone else has figured out a better way to use esp 32 cameras for home security because the only other choices are a) those chinese ones that don’t give you control over the rtsp stream (you can only use their spyware infested smartphone app) or b) those absurdly overpriced ones that don’t even come with night vision most of the time.

The 1 trick Big Screen doesn’t want you to know. Instead of buying multiple monitors, just print out the window before minimizing it.

I normally use C++ for making new games or misc projects from scratch but I think I could save myself some work using C#. I’ve done a lot of Rimworld modding and I like the way C# works. I really like how versatile C++ is though. If I want to make my program work on an old Athlon, I can compile with 32 bit and sse1. I would be surprised if it were possible to do that with any C# compiler but I also haven’t researched to find out.

Actually, I thought it was a Microsoft product for some reason. Turns out I’m wrong and it actually is FOSS.

I’ve used pdf.tocgen to add chapter headings into pdfs. It was the only thing I found that could do any pdf table of contents editing at all period. I think it can do a few other things though.

I use gitea to self host my own git projects internally. I only post the really good and well-refined stuff to my actual github.

Another thing stackoverflow is good for is if you’re like 14, don’t really know programming that well and can’t quite comprehend what you’re doing but know how to copy and paste code then fidget around with it until your ide stops complaining and it compiles and all works together.

There’s this one called lightweight music server. It’s basically just a glorified in-browser vlc. It has playlists and remembers what you were doing if you close the browser but it’s not possible to move songs up or down in the playlist. You can add songs to the front or back of the playlist as well as remove songs from the playlist but there’s no dragging up or down. For me it’s still the more desirable choice vs using Spotify and either paying a monthly fee or listening to ads. I know there are anti ad hacks but they always break after every update and are hard to install.

Ugh, I wanted to make a few sublemmys but if it’s that much work, forget it. One thing that’s lacking around here are the shitposting subreddit equivalents. r/Copypasta, r/shittyaskreddit, r/okbuddyretard, that kind of thing.
