Oh that definitely seem possible but I would assume going with a trusted seller with a warranty like goharddrive and serverpartdeal must be a safer choice in this regard.
Just your average quirky thigh-high socks enjoyer programmer. :3

Hungary, but these prices seem to be one of the best I was able to find currently.
Oh that’s interesting. Your dislikement towards Mozilla’s shenanings is valid, but what areas makes you hate Mozilla more than Google? Is it also due to convienience issues, because some sites are broken on Firefox?
Doesn’t seem like a tech article to me
Have you had data loss occurences in these bay enclosures? Some other commenters have said, that using it as a primary storage is really risky because some crappy controllers could ruin the drives’s data for example.
Yeah a DIY NAS PC sounds like a fun choice, it’s just too bad that this mini PC was a waste of cash if talking about storage. I do have an old PC, but it’s a 3770K which is mighty beast for sure, but definitely a more power hungry device.
And what’s your experience with it? Is the data transfer speed fast enough for you? Where do you do backups?
So as a TLDR a DAS really should only be used as an offside backup plan or secondary storage then? I might really have to do a DIY NAS with a desktop PC then. Thank you for the warning!
Wow thank you for these links, you’re insane. And if you would start this homelab process again, then would you go with this mini PC + DAS layout again, or with desktop pc as a NAS?
And what kinda mobo have you went with? A microATX perhaps?
Sounds like a good idea, since according to the comments it seems I really shouldn’t be using DAS as a primary storage (not with USB specifically).
Yeah this option seems like a more robust option than using an USB one. Unfortunately my mini PC doesn’t offer a sata connection, but thank you for the suggestion!
That’s still far away from us as a consumer standpoint, but I’m eagerly waiting for a time when I could buy a RISC V laptop with atleast midrange computing capabalities
Well probably the average Joe may not even know what a server is, not even being able to chose a server which is the best suited for him.
Well that can be understandable, but AFAIK podman generate still works, so if you can’t do something with Quadlet, then you can stays with generate until then. For example, I’m using Quadlet and now podman generate too since my Rocky 9 podman can’t be upgraded to podman 5 which means no pod support for you.
I’m a pretty Podman novice guy too but I’m running quadlets since it automatically creates and runs these containers just like the other services would be with systemd. In terms of networking I can usually access to my container via publishing a port and using the PC’s IP where the container is running, and this is the default network that Podman uses initially.
I have a Jellyfin quadlet config, that may help you. I’ve had numerous sufferings to make a working one, but here you go (These 3 files are in ~/.config/containers/systemd/jellyfin):

Please do ask questions if you have any. ^^
Hot take, but this police cybertruck looks pretty rad tbh, putting the obvious real life issues aside tho.
Unfortunately OSM won’t be able to compete with user reviews for example (except if we steal those from Google). Also a bunch of shops can’t be seen there, which is crucial for me to discover cheap restaurants.
But OSM’s bike routes are 10/10.
That looks like a bunny is twerking it’s rear end. Someone, please cleanse my wretched mind.
