It leaks out a bit if you watch enough of his videos. I don’t get the sense that he’s right-wing in a MAGA ultra-bigot way, he’s just very very libertarian. Loose gun laws, low-taxes, government stay outta my life kinda guy.

Not the kind of politics I subscribe to, but I don’t consider him to be a bad person for it.

Only issue I’d see with the WAN show is that a large chunk of it is LTT meta discussion. If you don’t watch/care about LTT that could get a little dull. Same with merch messages.

What’s your Twitch solution? Blocking Twitch is considerably more difficult than YouTube, every solution I’ve found breaks after a month or so. Best I can get is have it display a blank screen while ads play, but I still have to wait it out, which isn’t ideal.

Keep in mind that rif has been around since 2010, and the official app launched in 2016. I think the opposite is true, anecdotally I’ve noticed discussion of 3PA has gone down in the past 5 years. People used to talk about it all the time, I didn’t hear much until this controversy. Most redditors are not power-users, I don’t think many of them would know what F-Droid is let alone use it. I’d personally guess that 3PA usage is under 10%.

I think this change was mainly sparked by cracking down on AI scraping bots, and killing 3PA was a two-birds-one-stone side effect to prepare for their IPO.

There’s no way this poll is accurate. Just looking at the Play Store the official app has 100M+ downloads. The bext closest, rif, has 5M+. I think people underestimate how many casual users go straight to the official app and don’t care about any of this is.

Yeah, developers of new instances should probably edit that out.

I don’t think its a huge issue though, looking at that page the number of people who have donated more than $10 is like… a dozen.

I don’t agree with these views at all, but I don’t agree with the view that no one should use lemmy because of the opinions of the developers. Its an open-source project, just don’t use anything hosted by them. Like I don’t support the US military, but that doesn’t stop me from using the internet.

It can appear identical, but doesn’t function identical and requires a bit of research. There’s a learning curve to how instances work, finding communities, etc. Its not hard, but it doesn’t function like reddit does, most people expect a site where they can go to a website, punch in what they’re interested in, and get results.

Lemmy is not hard to understand, but most people are just going to leave if it doesn’t act immediately how they expect it to. But like I said, its fine. Its active enough here, and I hope it continues to grow, but its not going to rival a major website like reddit. I kinda like that though, this place reminds me of some niche forums I was active on 15 years ago.

I also feel like they could’ve mentioned the NSFW ban from the API. Whether you watch porn or not I think that’s an overlooked part of all this. Other than that I think they did a great overview.

Realistically Lemmy is not a suitable substitute for 90% of users, which is fine. Its just not intuitive enough.
