You know I have software on my PC old enough I can’t run it even in compatibility mode, I’d need to spin up a VM to run it or a pseudoVM like DOSBox, it’s not unheard of it’s not even uncommon.

Apple has repeatedly stressed that they’re privacy focused in the past, while a major departure from that could happen absolutely it feels a bit like borrowing trouble to assume it will happen soon. Google is an advertising company first, microsoft is just a mess, but Apple is a luxury hardware producer, they have minimal reason to damange their reputation in a way that would make those sorts of consumers upset.
Please note that I’m not saying it’s impossible just unlikely in the near future
Honestly I was considering getting one because I could use a nice laptop to do stuff on but 8GB is inexcusably bad so yeah pass
If you want buy in you should probably include something about who you are and what this is about. Especially for an on boarding meeting you want enough info people want to get abroad.
My giant megacorp owned by a billionaire is better than your giant megacorp owned by a billionaire.
You can search through tags to find people but honestly i find reblog chains suitable for finding people i’m interested in after getting started with some fandom tags and other stuff.
By that same logic reddit was a harbor of alt-right and other shitty people but if you curated your experience with it you could mostly avoid it. Similarly so with tumblr in my experience.

Is that what the subreddit coins or subredidt points idea was about?
I don’t know how you’ll get a capitalist prepper to surrender his golden goose.
Important to note the influx in question was caused by reddit banning hate subs and reasonable people also saw there was a forum to leer on children and left on the spot.
Voat died because it was a cesspool of the worst of the internet. I checked it out a bit after it’s formation and the last thing the world needed was another haven for pedos and alt-right sorts.
Reddit blew up when it got decent mobile apps. If the fediverse (is that really what we’re calling it?) gets decent mobile app support that helps simplify the onboarding process and connection to communities there’s a much higher chance.
Discord is a replacement for Skype and IRC. People use it as a substitute for all that plus forums and sometimes an entire website and it’s exhausting.
Incidental ddos is a possibility as well if the hype builds enough.
I hope they’re right!
It’s true that it will hurt people long term but it will drive traffic away more than deleting the inane stuff. No website like that should be such a central repo when it’s unstable like this. The internet has survived link rot and info loss before.
I’ve def seen conservative talking points about climate change being a myth sold by china to make american manufacturing and such noncompetitive.
