I’m not convinced meta is even intending to join the fediverse I think it’s far more likely they use activitypub to link Instagram Facebook and threads together and they never join the fediverse

Only defense is to defederate meta and any instance that chooses to federate with meta

Youtube is great as long as you don’t read the comments

It helps that the cost per user isn’t that high you for small and medium sized the instance owner can generally just pay out of pocket and the larger instances can just ask for a dollar a user and have more than enough money to pay for there instance

I think they want to kill a competitor in the crib think about it the fediverse has no advertising no collecting of personal data no censorship and if it got all your friends and family to join there would be no way for a commercial product to compete with that best to kill it while it is still small
