I’m not anti bash or fish, I’ve written in both just this week, but if we’re talking about readability/syntax as this post is about, and you want an alternative to bash, I’d say python is a more natural alternative. Fish syntax is still fairly ugly compared to most programming languages in my opinion.

For example, how could it know whether
cat $fooshould becat "$foo", or whether the script actually relies on word splitting? It’s possible that$foointentionally contains multiple paths.
Last time I used ShellCheck (yesterday funnily enough) I had written ports+=($(get_elixir_ports)) to split the input since get_elixir_ports returns a string of space separated ports. It worked exactly as intended, but ShellCheck still recommended to make the splitting explicit rather than implicit.

If you’re going to write scripts that requires installing software, might as well use something like python though? Most Linux distros ship also ship with python installed
Writing Lua code that also interacts with C code that uses 0 indexing is an awful experience. Annoys me to this day even though haven’t used it for 2 years

Really people should go to the kernel threads and read all of them carefully and the links to the social media and read them careful too, it’s not too big.
No, people who aren’t involved with the kernel should not get involved with this, that’s Torvald’s point. You can’t let a serious project like Linux be affected by social media uproar, let the developers sort it out amongst themselves.
Plenty of projects have exe files available on the release page though, it’s just hard to find unless you’re familiar with github.

Windows/Microsoft’s biggest selling point is the backwards compatibility though. It has been the corner stone of their software development.

As a Norwegian, that got to be our coolest stat, however I have no idea how it can be true. Even in my engineering bubble there aren’t that many people using Linux. It’s all Windows and macs for home computers.

Do you not use indentation in other languages?
It’s been a mix throughout the years. The initial problem software years ago was Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, but since then it’s been various engineering/programming related software that only supports Windows. I’m primarily on Linux at this point on my laptop.
I did try that years ago, ran into performance issues and other bugs, and it wasn’t worth messing around with when dual booting is so simple. Might reconsider in the future if MS keeps messing up though.
Cost me a few hours and ended up just disabling secure boot in the end. Wish I didn’t need MS for some programs.
This exaggeration gets tiresome, there are some great uses for LLM. The copilot autocomplete got to be one of the greatest QoL functions in a modern IDE.
It also generally work great for tech support, and lowers the skill requirement for installing and maintaining a Linux distro. Nowadays I will usually just redirect tech support questions from family members to an LLM.
Just because it won’t solve cancer in 10 years like the tech bros preach doesn’t mean the tech is without uses.
