Redox is advancing, I think it’s possible for it to become dominant someday, I don’t know the likelihood but if rust in linux dies completely it feels almost inevitable.
would probably be for the best anyway, they’re porting wayland and cosmic, would be nice to undo all the technical debt in the long run probably. Not for a very long time though.

if you want something that looks like discord there are themes for the clients, there’s even commet.chat for a discord like experience (but they haven’t added calls yet)

I don’t see why anybody cares how long it takes, you can use x.org still, the point of wayland is to create something excellent from the ground up to replace x.org, not to create a product as quickly as possible. X still works, use it. If wayland doesn’t meet your needs yet, wayland will eventually meet your needs.
There was no reason to rush, because x.org still worked… the point was to create an excellent from the ground up implementation, that takes tons of time.
Why would they rush it out if there’s something that already works fine? That’d completely defeat the purpose of it.

Bazzite is a straight upgrade to fedora, wish more people would recommend it over mint for new people

On windows, the app store is extremely lacking, mac, sure.
Because windows is annoying as hell to use and you get literally nothing from the spyware, ads, and intentional dark-patterns.
Windows is constantly malicious, even if you do your best to make it not so, it’s designed to be as malicious as possible while still being tolerable.
Linux has never done something bad to me that was outright malicious. that alone makes a huge difference for me.
linux is slowly getting better, windows is rapidly getting worse.
Silverblue and kinoite are great but I recommend bazzite to people now, silverblue/kinoite don’t work with twitch out of the box because of some ffmpeg nonsense, bazzite is just a lot easier since the iso is pre-configured to your hardware and everything just works.
Immutable systems do not have this problem at all.
Try out bazzite, which is based on silverblue/kinoite but comes with some extra stuff preconfigured.

Having an app store is easier than expecting people to download things from the internet, just because your distro fucked up doesn’t mean this isn’t generally a win for linux.
i work IT, software fails to install ALL THE TIME on windows for all kinds of reasons
I think immutability gaining steam made this a good time for this, normally i’m against distros for the sake of distros, but the kde one is going to be an immutable arch based distro and i think we really needed a good kde immutable arch based distro, and I think it’ll be great for the masses too!
don’t know anything about the gnome one, probably will also be good.
It’s not just about rust, it’s also just that there’s a lot of tech debt in the linux kernel just from the design, they don’t change a lot because they don’t want to mess anything up, redox has been able to learn from all of that.
rust is also an awesome tool for writing OS’s however
