Yes, I’m comparing the threat level based on the maximum potential akin to the likes of “those apps”. Permissions are straightforward and will protect users just like ad blockers, decentralized static frameworks (JavaScript/CSS/fonts), and clearing cookies. But on average users are not well informed and aren’t considering permissions, add-ons, or even which browser or app they use so I compare based on the potential threat level.
Phone apps have access to significantly more data than a browser does, especially when people haphazardly agree to any and all permissions.
It’s just an incentive to install the app, the amount of data being harvested and sold/traded is basically the new economy.

I have been thinking about trying to use Linux for my daily driver again and have been mulling over which distro to use and I kind of narrowed it down, and then I took your quiz and now I’ve got like 60 more options. 😒
Same privacy policy authorizing them to harvest your data, but older cars have a more limited capability to collect data compared to newer cars filled with sensors, cameras, and phone integrations. Plus older cellular networks are defunct for older vehicles so they can’t just exfil it without you helping or bringing it in to physically access it.
I started to ween myself off when they announced they were killing third party apps since I was never going to use that trash app. As the weeks went on and they showed they would rather prioritize their interests over the community I realized things would never change and the idea of what reddit was in my head didn’t match reality so I made a few Lemmy accounts.
There are a few niche subreddits that didn’t come over or I just haven’t found them, honestly I’ve not really looked. It took a bit to acclimate to Lemmy and how things federate and there were a few syncing issues that were fixed pretty quickly as the exodus happened which is really nice. The admins on all the instances seem to have their own biases in how they run their community and those seem to fall in line with the rest of their communities so it doesn’t seem like a big deal as most recognize their differences and try and work together anyway. I think that even though some may disagree or outright hate each other they want the concept of the fediverse to work so they put in the effort which is all anyone can ask of each other.
As for how I’m doing and the fear of missing out, it’s honestly not much different other than a few niche communities that are available off of reddit anyway so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. The only thing we don’t have is a fediverse mascot afaik.
On the graphic it said wifi 5 and the title said wifi 6 and the wifi and Bluetooth icons were swapped for the versions making it look sketchy, but I realized now it says wifi 5/2.4 referring to the frequency.

AI is essentially an algorithm that looks at a set of data which it “trains” on and then uses that predictive model to reproduce a facsimile of an answer. An analogy would be if you took a parrot and only sever said compliments to it you would get a parrot that says compliments except it doesn’t actually understand what its saying just that it should. Knowing that, what they’re saying is that they want your data to train on so here’s some crap you don’t want or need in the hopes you think its cool or useful.
If enough people give up their data they could probably make a model that is actually useful, at which time they’ll turn it into a paid product to replace the people who were naive enough to provide their data for training.
