Awesome, sounds as seamless as the rest of the OS

Awesome, sounds as seamless as the rest of the OS

So it’s just like any other update through Discover? Or do I need to download the new release ISO and update it old school?

I’m a very recent convert, what’s the upgrade process like on Fedora? Is it just like any other system update or is it better to do a fresh install

Wayland is one of the reasons I picked fedora/plasma

I was doubtful I’d ever install this on a family member’s PC but all the normal stuff just worked

I do and used it professionally so I’ve hard a hard time getting into GIMP. Haven’t tried it with the keyboard shortcut update, thought
It was a pretty well-specced machine when I built it but it’s not too new. Intel i7-13700k 13th gen, gtx 5080 (added way later obviously), 64gb DDR5, 2x wd black NVMEs

EVERYTHING feels like 100ms+ delay on Windows nowadays. There’s even a delay opening the start menu (because apparently it’s HTML5 in a wrapper now??)

I wish I could tell you why I settled on it. I know Ubuntu got vetoed because of the slow release cycle but I can’t remember what crime Mint committed

I never booted it but yes I do have the ISO on ventoy

I didn’t think Linux had HDR for some reason so it was a pleasant surprise to see it at all! I’ll probably just wait for officially releases until I run into problems

Aha, that works too! I’ll edit the post to suggest this to future readers

The partition thing was part of the installer. I used the suggested partitions and when that didn’t work, tried resizing the suggested partitions. When that didn’t work (can’t resize an efi partition apparently), I made the partitions myself and it was the same thing.
I was already a bit annoyed by the aspect ratio and needing to access a hidden menu to boot with an Nvidia card so I stopped trying after that.
I might install those just for fun but I’m pretty happy with the default plasma dark theme!

The thing that really blew me away wasn’t just the ease but the SPEED of it. Can’t believe I had a functional operating system in under 10 minutes. I swear it took an hour just to get to the desktop on my last Windows install.

Good to know! I will likely stick to this for now, my mouse is on its last legs and it’ll be the last trash Corsair peripheral I ever own. I’m getting a free Logitech MX Master 3s (confirmed Linux support) from work and plan to replace the keyboard and headset next year anyway.

There’s a few things I expect to run into (I’m still beholden to a lot of windows software for now) but the most important stuff is behind me!
It only looks sloppy because there’s no method to the madness. You just need some lacing bars and it’ll look AWESOME! I used to build racks for work and cleanliness was my thing. Here’s how to properly use lacing bars:
Put a lacing bar behind every piece of equipment. Wires should run straight back to it then run left or right, Velcro to the vertical bars, and onto the next lacing bar. The only “floating” wires should be from device to lacing bar, everything else is attached to something
Pick which side is for power. Power wires are run on that side, everything else goes on the other
VELCRO STRAPS instead of zip ties. The only acceptable place for zip ties is DC power cords…but do it right by the brick or device, never the middle
With premade cables, slack can be hidden on the vertical rails. Never the lacing bar or in the air!
Labels are really nice if you can swing it. I quit that job so I don’t have a label maker anymore

Bigotry is a byproduct of ignorance and ignorance is usually solveable.

That’s just a really solid joke.
It looks like they imported an isometric view into 2D space
I picked Fedora in part for the 6 month cycle so I’m on board!
