8·16 days agoMe trying to figure out what goog leapis is.
You can rice anything, if you try hard enough. In this case, though, I did not have to edit a single config file (apart from some stuff under
/etc/rc.dto get XDM and wpa_supplicant working).

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Abandon all hope of debugging this s*tEnglish
13·3 months agoReminds me of the xterm(1) README:
Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here
This is undoubtedly the most ugly program in the distribution. It was one of the first “serious” programs ported, and still has a lot of historical baggage. Ideally, there would be a general tty widget and then vt102 and tek4014 subwidgets so that they could be used in other programs. We are trying to clean things up as we go, but there is still a lot of work to do.

10·3 months agoAbsolute dickhead. What’s next? Am I getting fined for disabling JavaScript? What about using Links2?
This world is a dystopian shithole.

unixporn@lemmy.world•[ANSWERED] Should i prefer GTK apps or QT apps for customization?English
3·3 months agoQt6 is a lot more customisable than GTK 4, but you probably won’t notice if:
- You’re using GTK 2/3
- You’re using a boring flat theme
However, if you’re using Flatpaks, GTK is possibly better.
Ah, well SwayFX doesn’t have animations. Use it if you like (I do), but Hyprland does have more features.
Window Maker is a window manager.
Sway is quite a safe bet. SwayFX if you want rounded corners, shadows, or blurring.

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Fast video converter for Linux?English
8·4 months agoFFmpeg is your friend. Here’s a command that should work:
mkdir converted; for i in *.mp4; do ffmpeg -i $i converted/${i::-3}.hevc; done
Old hardware. Maybe I could have run River, but in my experience this machine doesn’t like Wayland.
Also, Xenocara is pretty good. More secure than Xorg.
Oh, I see. My apologies. I couldn’t quite understand what you were saying back there.
Yes, there are a few packages missing. Notably, Micro, Mullvad Browser, and Librewolf are not in the repo or ports tree. I am also having trouble building mle from source, and of course things like Steam will probably never be available.
However, there are plenty of packages that can be substitutes for a lot of Linux software.
Pardon?

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•vibe coding is just spicier "Ctrl+C Ctrl+V"English
134·5 months agoNah, vibe coding is to programming what passing off food from a restaurant as your own (á la steamed hams) is to cooking.

Obsidian is proprietary, but I’ll look into Open Desk.
