6·20 days agoAh fuck!
Edit: After reading more info on the situation it seems like there was no malice, but this has been handled in an outright lousy way, this software has important privileges on the phone and was handled spectacularly bad for an app aimed at people who care about privacy.
However, there was a silver lining here for some of us which was pointed there: The upgrade to version 2 was a potentially breaking one, so they published it in a way that would not upgrade automatically, so lots of people including me still have version 1.30.0.4, and are unable to automatically upgrade, need to do multiple manual steps to get to version 2. I think I’ll wait a bit before upgrading to see how they handle things, OR if there’s a fork by a person with a modicum of common sense.

It’s been a couple of years so don’t recall the details or the name of the thing, but it was something that went through every comment you ever posted and overwrote it, even past the 1000 messages limit, but got crippled after the API stuff actually got implemented, no idea if it still exists or if it’s usable

And i continue not regretting deleting everything i ever posted on Reddit for 17 years when i left them during the APIcalypse fiasco (yes, i imagine it’s all archived somewhere anyway, but at least it’s not there for them to use at this time)
Checked, the ACTUAL paper does mention how to transmit it, as microwaves, haven’t read yet beyond the abstract (got some stuff pending to do) but at least it mentions a method

9·5 months agoIt is very possible to have a full smart home setup with zero dependence on Teh Cloudz, with fallback to physical dumb switches when something goes wrong, but from what I’ve seen it’s far less effort to have one that depends on external stuff

Technology@beehaw.org•Organic Maps fork CoMaps launches on major app stores for iOS and AndroidEnglish
4·5 months agoAfter installing it, a tiny but relevant point is to get a nicer icon that “app name in a square”, Organic Maps had a nice, RECOGNIZABLE icon, CoMaps will be glossed over when looking for it a bunch of times because of it’s super generic one. I imagine it’s coming since they’re just starting but hope that someone does have it in mind.

1·6 months agoI’m also on Mint and X11, and intended to stay there for the moment specially since reading the latest David Revoy fully Linux FOSS guide for artists, which showed that many things are still behind in development, this may have changed since then but at least back then i decided to let it cook more before trying it out. I hope development has advanced enough that you can switch to it full time already but honestly i have no idea if it’s there yet.

3·6 months agoA study years ago found that the ideal time for copyrights to recover the investment and all that was something like 14 years or something like that (don’t recall exactly), can you imagine if anything older than like 20 years automatically fell into the Public Domain? Probably don’t count on it going away until the current LLM bubble pops

MUCH prefer AnySoftKeyboard as it has niceties like easy switching of language on the fly, arrow keys and other stuff like that, i just wish the autocomplete was not worse than not having any as it actually wastes your time showing you whatever incorrect and extremely unlikely suggestions it wants instead of something that actually follows what you’re writing
