Yeah, Lemmy loves to talk about how this won’t work and they’ve moved to Plex, but overall it’s been working great for Netflix.
Eventually the bubble will burst and people will start to drop Netflix, but that’s a way off.

Well when the alternative is Bing quality search results, Google still has a slight edge.
That gap is closing by the day tho.
Well then let’s throw this entire post out of the window and not talk about it at all, if we’re taking the EvErYtHiNgS SuBjEcTiVe approach
Honestly, less than 7 on IMDB is bad.
Most average things fall between 7-8, 8+ is really good, 6 and lower is bad. So the colours actually do lineup with the score imo.
5 absolutely doesn’t mean average on IMDB. If something gets a 5 then it’s absolute dogshit.
Based on the graphic, people watching them think they’re ass as well tho…
Kinda the whole point of the post.
My first job was as an “engineer”.
I spent most my time resetting passwords and setting up Outlook…
Job titles in IT don’t mean anything these days.
In particular, the term “engineer” has been butchered beyond recognition.
I’m not in software development, but this is how the entire company I work for operates.
We’re just kinda going forward with no clear direction, keeping stuff ticking over and constantly coming up with future plans that never come to fruition.
Also from the source:
To sustain our ongoing development efforts, about half of Signal’s overall operating budget goes towards recruiting, compensating, and retaining the people who build and care for Signal. When benefits, HR services, taxes, recruiting, and salaries are included, this translates to around $19 million dollars per year.
They sound like a great person to work with, “it’s not my fault for lack of documentation, it’s your fault for being an idiot”
Someone should tell the wannabe communists that they’d still have to work.
Seems like you’re looking for an argument and using me as a straw man, considering I’ve said none of that and actually agree with the points you’re making.
If you work and do your part you should get shelter, medical care and all the other necessities, as well as time to live your life.
Someone’s part is whatever they’re able to do. If they have disabilities that mean they can’t contribute in a work environment then they’ve essentially already done their part.
There needs to be a base level that means everyone is protected and has what they need. And in an ideal world I’d like to see people like teachers and doctors being among the highest paid/rewarded for what they do.
Actually, the person in the tweet is saying they don’t want to work. If you go based off that, then they don’t want to be a part of any society, they just want everything for free.
If you want to be part of society, then you work and contribute. Otherwise, you’re just a leech. Whether you’re a billionaire or a poor one.
Yeah, it’s just about pushing back on ridiculous expectations.
If you work and do your part you should get shelter, medical care and all the other necessities, as well as time to live your life. Then, if you work hard you get a bigger house and more luxury items etc.
But we’ve ended up in a situation where you have to work hard and you don’t even necessarily get the basics anymore. Home ownership is a pipe dream for a lot of people in my country.
Meanwhile, people like the one in the tweet just want stuff for free. They don’t actually want a society where people get what they deserve, really they just wish they were born to a rich family and don’t have to work.
Yeah, if that’s an option then I respect people who do that, but if you want the comforts of modern society then you need to contribute.
Imo anti work is about pushing back on the ridiculous expectations of companies, and ensuring that employees receive some of the benefits of automation to ease the load on them.
This tweet strikes me as the “but I want everything for freeee!!!” person who makes anti work look bad. Like that idiot Reddit mod who went on Fox News or whatever news station it was.
I’d say his own snarky attitude and outbursts have created that toxic environment though, and it’s trickled down to the upper management so that they feel they can get away with this shit.
If you’ve watched his videos long enough then you know what he’s like, and none of this is that surprising. You can practically hear Linus’ condescending tone in some of the stuff that Madison’s quoted.
You see staff frequently make excuses for his attitude, saying that he just “cares” a lot about what they’re doing and wants it to be right.
One thing that bothers me about the billets stuff is they stand by their core point, which is that it’s a useless product.
But that’s not the only thing they’ve claimed. They also said it’s a bad product that doesn’t work properly, thus damaging the company’s reputation.
To most people that’s a significant difference for how they view the company:
“Useless” product that works well at what it does = hopefully this company will make something more relevant in future
“Useless” product that doesn’t even work properly = I’ll avoid this company in future
It’s kinda correct in that it’s full of right wingers and also lefties, although the scales have been quickly shifting.
Genuine question though, what social media platform is better at being central?
If you say Lemmy I’m gonna laugh myself into a coma 😆
