I’ve not been a parent, but I think it actually sounds pretty nice to be able to check where your kid is, before a certain age.

For a young kid, who cant advocate for themselves or otherwise be trusted to know when to seek help from an adult, theres really not much expectation of privacy? You should probably know where your 6 y/o is at all times, I don’t find that particularly creepy.

The peace of mind having access to a findmy network for my keys and other devices saves me an embarrassing amount of anxiety. These are inanimate objects that are at most an inconvenience to lose, and they cant wander off on their own. Given how I’m willing to essentially track myself for keys, I can see how parents justify tracking their kids to and from school.

The sheer terror that they must sometimes feel if the bus is late or their kid decides to follow a friend home must be pretty unbearable. When they’re old enough for a phone or to otherwise access a trusted adult when needed, then I can see an argument to be made for their autonomy.

I assume that server-side asset deletions are applied to client libraries. I.e. If I take a picture on my phone, but then later delete the picture from immich on another device, it will then also remove the original copy on the client (phone) that took it.

This is correct. But the port wont reply to anything but a valid client, so it should not be too apparent to a would-be attacker that you have a port open at all.

Logseq and syncthing could work for your notes. Logseq has a whiteboard feature that can be used with a stylus, and syncthing is p2p.

You could just have easily moved on, but instead you give others the opportunity to share their knowledge and subsequently you give other people opportunities to learn.

Maybe one day we can have an internet not so full of snarky replies, and instead one where everyone is given opportunities to learn, and ask, without fear of being belittled.

In order to give those with knowledge the opportunities to share, we need to ask questions that are indicative of our current understanding (or lack thereof).

It may sound silly, but asking questions really is a vulnerable act. Genuine questions are often met with unjustified and unhelpful hostility on the internet.

Linkding might work well for you given your current workflow. I had considered doing the same as you, but I find the linkding extension makes saving and tagging bookmarks super fast.

Theres also an option to make automatic snapshots on the way back machine for each bookmark (though its recommended to donate to IA to use this feature).
