Wouldn’t this be too barebones?

Linux@programming.dev•NVIDIA Drops Pascal Support On Linux, Causing Chaos On Arch Linux
2·1 month agoThanks for the comparison. It seems RX 6600 seems the most suitable option since the second hand prices for 5700 and 6600 are quite close. Probably GTX 1080 can compensate most of it.
Well, currently I’ll have to switch the AUR driver and will have to stick to it for a while until I find a good candidate. I would expect them to make it at least legacy driver so we don’t have to hoop around though. It’s not usually like this but this is a big change (thanks Nvidia) and Arch team made a big change too, so usual update would break my system it would seem.

2·1 month agoI see, thanks for checking though. It seems I can sell GTX 1080 around 100$ here but RX 7600 XT is 320$ in second hand. Second hand market doesn’t seem bright here. Even RX 6600 is around 150$. That might work for me but I guess I’ll need to check a lot.

2·1 month agoSounds nice but let me rephrase. What is the similar AMD card that I can get by selling GTX 1080 without adding too much. I’m not looking for an upgrade anytime soon.
I’ll switch to Debian if I must but I don’t want to do that either unless I have to.

8·1 month agoJust make 580 legacy. Problem solved. :) (It’s already LTS though)
By the way, I have GTX 1080 and this seems to be end of the way. What is the similar AMD I can get, preferably second hand?
Someone’s not happy with either Wayland or X11 being deprecated. I’m glad projects like this exist though.
It’s my favourite music player on Android as well. There aren’t many folder players and I think this is the best one. Glad there is a new update now.

9·2 months agoWell, technically it’s not possible since OS doesn’t have network connection. At least unless someone learns C† and implements network connection into it. If Terry said it would be complicated, it’s probably a hard task. :)

15·2 months agoPretty much everything other than TempleOS. FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Haiku OS, Redox OS, Sculpt OS etc.
Of course it depends on the person but what I was trying to refer were non tech-savvy people. If you want to learn Linux wholeheartedly, Arch or Gentoo are perfect for the job, even LFS I would say. However for non tech-savvy people the distro should rely on GUI as much as possible I think, and it shouldn’t have the danger that it might get broken after an update, even if it’s a small thing and easily repairable by veteran users.
“Having a problem”-wise, probably not. However you most likely won’t see immutable distro won’t boot problem. This is not the case with Arch. To be fair, aside from gaming, I’m getting close to recommend more of the stable side of the distros to beginners, like LMDE or pure Debian.
While I’m a happy EndeavourOS user, I don’t think Arch-based distros are for beginners, even if they work perfect, which they are most of the time. The problem is the most part. Because a beginner can’t fix a problem, even a simple one if they have no idea about Linux. It doesn’t have problems often, but even one time is enough for beginners and it’s a deal breaker.
