I like to pronounce it as nginks like fucking inks. Yes, with a ng sound in the beginning.

True. It doesn’t even install on Android 14.
Fcitx5 is the best for Chinese. Honestly very impressed that there is a open-source keyboard this good for Chinese. Only thing missing is fat finger error correction (like autocorrect but it works on the preedit text instead of text already output)
Fcitx5 for Chinese, and Flickboard for English. Honestly sad that there isn’t a decent open-source keyboard for Japanese though.
No, I don’t think Lemmy supports following users.
I see! Thanks, will try to back up my docker compose services this way.
Can you elaborate on how your backup script re-deploys on new hardware? Sounds very nice to have.
imho Chinese platforms censor their words too much. you might not have seen it, but the users self censor words like death, suicide, sex, and stuff like that.
wow I’ve been using it thinking it was foss. time to look for something else.

Brilliant.

Before I read this article, I also thought it would be a great idea to get rid of timezones entirely and just use UTC for everything. To quote from the link, (please forgive me for being lazy and not formatting it correctly)
Abolishing time zones brings many benefits, I hope. It also:
As long as humans live in more than one part of the world, solar time is always going to be subjective. Abolishing time zones only exacerbates this problem.
huh, my standard f-droid client does show the file size
No. It actually is named Arya. they are just pointing out how similar it is to Aryan
Don’t worry! I was also frustrated by the fact that there is only a macOS version available, but after a little digging, I found this on their FAQ:
Q: What platforms does Zed support?
A: As of now, we only support macOS.
[…]
As a general timeframe, you can expect us to begin work on supporting these platforms [Linux and Windows] after Zed is open source, but before version 1.0. Any news will be posted to our platform-tracking issues.
See also this issue. It seems like they have already begun making a Linux version.

The year is 4 digits. This is just an age confirmation dialog asking for your birthday on a sketchy website, so I’m pretty sure the date won’t be displayed later.
I respect your freedom to choose which terms to consider offensive, and I do not plan to talk you into accepting terms offensive to you. Nevertheless, I want to say that while “ricing your car” does have derogatory undertones, “ricing my Linux system” just does not have the same undertone. Ricing cars, as in the racist context, means customizing cars so heavily that it becomes an abomination. Ricing a Linux system, on the other hand, is the act of making a Linux desktop system as aesthetically pleasing as possible.
As an east Asian that eats rice every day, I must say that I don’t consider this term racist at all. The meanings of words shift over time. For example, nice used to mean “foolish, ignorant, frivolous, senseless,” but now it means “kind, thoughtful.” Gay used to mean “lighthearted, joyous,” then a slang for homosexuals, and ultimately became the term with which many homosexuals choose to describe themselves. Rice may have been a racist term, but now what it means is “to extensively customize one’s desktop system to one’s liking, especially Linux systems.” It no longer is racist.
Yes, like the Vietnamese name “Nguyen”, but not like “wininks”. The best I could describe it is as a hybrid between “ninks” and “ginks”. Pronounce the first consonant with the back of your tongue while keeping the image of pronouncing an “n” sound in your head.
