Time to get a mic for my home server!

Have you tried logging in with a X11 session instead of Wayland?

I’m a flask developer but even so I would use PHP for this. There are a million php-based contact form scripts on the web and configuring caddy to use PHP will be easier than python/flask.
As for the sending email part - don’t run a smtp server locally, too much hassle. Smtp2go has a free tier which will be fine.

IMO Lemmy/PieFed is safer to run because the community mods will delete anything illegal, which will delete it for you, too. About 5 instances host 95% of communities worth joining so it’s easy for us to coordinate defense.
Mastodon is thousands of instances and more wild west. Bad stuff can come from anywhere.

Thanks!

FYI PieFed has a reminder function, in the 3 dot menu on a post / comment.
Installed qbittorrent and downloaded a few seasons of Linux isos onto a vps. Discovered accessing those files over SSH to be too slow to play them without buffering so installed filebrowser to get them via http which worked well.
It’s been a long long time since I used bittorrent and wow it works so much better these days.

Install a floppy drive. No one gonna steal a computer with one of those.

There are sooo many S3 providers.
Hetzner is 5 Euro / mo for 1 TB (traffic is extra). Cloudflare R2 is $15 / mo for 1 TB (traffic is free and they charge per GB so you’d probably pay much less than that).
One availability zone is enough. I am not convinced that Aurora is good value.
This seems like an ad for pulumi, whatever that is.
Data center servers are a different breed. I got an old one for cheap once and only ran it for a few minutes because it sounded like a jet engine. No way to make that thing efficient.

On my 8 GB laptop I had it at 100% for a while and it slowed my laptop down a lot. At 50% it’s much happier.
I can’t remember the compression method, ymmv

Sounds like I need a better DNS provider!

Using fake information is mandatory otherwise you’ll get doxed - the domain ownership is public information, including your full name, physical address, email address and phone number. If someone knows you own the domain, they can look it up using whois.
I got death threats that way, one time.

Wasn’t that because of age verification though?

Wow that took a unexpected turn. Removed my upvote after reading.

Sad to hear it. When I was a noob I was a subscriber for a year or two. Great mag but got a bit repetitive after a while. Hard business.
Check out Big Blue Button - https://demo.bigbluebutton.org/
Their website talks all about using it for teaching students but it’s really just like Jitsi with more features.
Sounds really good!
You’re planning a version that runs on Linux too, right? Your screenshot looks like Windows.
