Remember working for like a week to get the audio drivers working so I could finally figure out how to properly pronounce “Linux…”
And I still couldn’t.
And we’ll send five dollars American to anyone who gets that reference*.

I’m not mad at it :-) It was written for people who were familiar with the situation and posted in a subject matter specific forum.
24 hours later I feel like a bit of an ass. I thought about how many times I’ve picked up a technical article and wished for a bit less background… it’s kind of nice that we don’t have to talk about the whole history of OSS before getting to the news/subject.
It was struggling harder than I was ;-)
Most likely. My own unfamiliarity with the subject matter plays a part too.
It wasn’t badly written… but it probably could have used a brief introduction.
Anyone else immediately get a migraine trying to read the first 2 paragraphs/sentences of that article?
That must be why it stopped working ;-)
Does 48 hours not getting a reverse proxy working count?
It’s FreeNAS and I don’t really hoast anything but the plex server… so 48 hours.
If deleting files counts 10 days a year, if not 1 day a year.
Well… now I’m glad I didn’t bother trying to scrub my data off the site ;-)
Never really bought the notion that they weren’t backing it all up.
But I gotta say thank you for helping to make Reddit great! The only thing I still regret is not trying harder to contribute when I was enjoying the site.
Unfortunately there’s currently no way to prevent it from automatically loading on your Mac ;-)
I’m absolutely going to give this a try. Thanks for posting!
Reddit now openly collects and sells user data.
With Sam Altman as shareholder #4 I think we got sold out long ago. The only real surprise is that Reddit got some compensation…
So… and this is probably debatable, the point of a dedicated seed box is that there are a metric-shitton of other seed boxes on the local network (at the datacenter).
I’d argue the point of self hosting is to be able to set it up however you please. It sounds like you know what to do to be safe.
I use Mulvad for general VPN duty, though I can’t personally speak to its torrent support/speed I do see many recommend it in combination with a wireguard supporting container image. Spin a few up and let us know which ones you like and why.
Honestly didn’t expect a single other soul to remember that, so not late :-)
