It is called Calamares, it is not well maintained upstream, and it doesn’t support even trivial complexity like LVM or Encryption.

Use the regular install DVD or Netinst. You get to choose your desktop environment in the process.

I gave Tangram and Ferdium a look but the rendering engine they use is awful and makes my eyes hurt. Old Chrome/Chromium used to have the same problem years ago. I’ll stick to Librewolf pinned tabs.

iiuc any Flatpak application must use the Flatpak runtime Mesa. If a library doesn’t exist in the Flatpak runtime then the application must package the library itself. No system library is used at all.

If you’re using Flatpak then you’ll be using their Mesa, which is updated with the runtime. You can also use Mesa-git which is updated much more frequently.

I am doing this and not worrying about the Debian installed Mesa.

I have just made the switch from Ubuntu. Now I have a trustworthy stable base, plus selected latest apps with Flatpak and Distrobox. It’s the best of both worlds.

I use FolderSync app to do this, it can sync from many cloud services to phone and vice versa, heaps of sync options for which networks to sync on, how often to sync, etc:

I don’t know what Pi-Hole is capable of but that’s possible on open source routers like OpenWrt.

I’ve had a Racknerd VPS on a LEB special for a couple of years. It work works and is always there when I need it. The control panel is good. If you want to pay less than US$1/month for a small VPS they’re great.

It’s basic SSH-based git, but also allows you to manage permissions for users and groups based on their SSH keys. You do all configuration by editing a file in the adminstration repo and pushing those changes to the server. I don’t want a web interface or any heavy service running all the time so this suits me perfectly.

Been looking into this myself recently. I’m currently trying out a free 5GB account from an online provider and like it better than Dropbox. So I’m sold on the whole idea of Nextcloud.

Haven’t decided what deployment method to use yet. I considered the pre-made VM images but will probably use one of the containers because it seems easier to deploy a proper HTTPS certificate with the Let’s Encrypt nginx container in front. All on Podman, there are heaps of tutorials around.

I have a couple of decent mini PCs I’ll use, you can get them cheap on eBay. I’ve heard it struggles on a little Raspberry Pi if you have many systems doing sync (which is exactly what I want to do).
