18·6 months agothere was this satirical “web browsing simulator 2025” or something like that where you had to do all those things.
but I don’t remember the exact name and can’t find it with a search engine. Maybe someone else knows what I am talking about.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What OS should I use for self-hosting that doesn't require extensive terminal knowledge?English
10·10 months agoYUNOHost iso is basically just Debian, but the one-click-install for various self-hosted things is it’s primary purpose. All done through web interface.
cool idea
concept somewhat reminds me of OpenDesk
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opendesk
Which I know about because it uses the same name as https://opendesk.eu/en/ , which I am actually interested in.

ah yes, that, wormhole.app, that is closed source. (but if I am reading this correctly, some early iteration of it is open source. https://github.com/saljam/webwormhole )
Magic wormhole is a different thing.
can you link to the post that claims the protocol is not open? I’m interested in looking into that
anyway, source for the magic wormhole can be found here: https://github.com/magic-wormhole/magic-wormhole which also links to both the Mailbox code and the Transit Relay code.
Termux + Termux-x11 + Proot for Linux software.
You can do it without Proot if all the software that you need is already in Termux-x11 repository.

Self Hosted - Self-hosting your services.@lemmy.ml•Most promising "self-hosting for the masses" projects?
3·2 years agoOther comments already pointed to some very good software solutions.
But I would argue that absolutely the biggest barrier to entry for the masses is hardware.
Restoring an old PC or making some cable spaghetti with some SBC is currently too advanced for average person.
Self-hosting for the masses would require some new form of home servers.
Something modular, where adding new components would be as easy as playing with Lego bricks.
