I have – were I more artistically talented – often wanted to create graphics and stickers for Emacs utilizing the noble octopus.

Heh, that was part of the joke I was aiming for; I liked that it worked on both levels.
It looks like you already got some good suggestions that don’t require an additional application but I was going to mention, if you use Emacs any, nov.el is a really great ereader; I’ve read much more, since discovering it.
Well, – you know – less is more.

Linux@programming.dev•NixOS is the best operating system I absolutely cannot recommend to anyone - Anurag SinghEnglish
2·6 days agoFirefox’s use of Encrypted Media Extensions violates the GNU Free System Distribution Guidelines as it allows for playing of DRM-protected content which can steer people to non-free software (there may be additional other reasons but that’s one I definitely know of).
But it’s perfectly available in NonGuix; I use Firefox regularly on Guix.
As for Librewolf, I’m not sure that’s accurate? I see it available in the default Guix repo.s, latest version: https://packages.guix.gnu.org/packages/librewolf/.
It was added about 2 years ago. Admittedly, Guix is a smaller distro so some packages aren’t packaged immediately just as a consequence of a lack of human resources; but it also continues to improve over time, quite nicely.

4·9 days agoAt least as long as you don’t really need WiFi of course…
Hey, now – the NonGuix repo. exists!
_
For those unfamiliar, it contains software with proprietary elements that otherwise can’t make it into the Guix software repository, à la
non-freefor Debian. You can get the normal Linux kernel and all the hardware compatibility you’d typically expect easily through NonGuix.

2·9 days agoDoes Home Manager not just have a dot file manager built in? On Guix, I just have my Waybar config. get moved to the appropriate location that Waybar will expect it.
Some services will even allow you to specify files to get injected into the config.; like the Bash service so I can write some definitions out in a .sh file and the service inserts that contents after the boilerplate it provides into my
.bashrc.

4·11 days agobut i’d stopped suggesting framework to people long before we found out they’re a bunch of assholes.
Yeah…; I was Hell-bent on a Framework being one of my next laptops and telling everyone about them and then that shit dropped. Massively disappointing.

Linux@programming.dev•The state of Linux music players in 2026English
3·13 days agoI stopped using iTunes around 2012 and I expect its design has changed quite a bit, since then; Banshee was a perfect capture of it, then, and I haven’t been able to find a suitable replacement for Banshee since development halted on it.
Granted, the most important qualities, for me, is for the player to allow tagging within the app. and to rename and organize the files by their tags automatically once those tags have been modified and every Linux developer seems to hate that so my unique requirements seem to largely drive my impediment.

I switched 14 years ago but it really is shocking realizing just how much you were either used to or sort of worked around dysfunctionality with Windows because…that’s just the OS.
