freedos, obviously

freedos, obviously

i keep seeing this online but i have not once heard anyone complain about this IRL, all i’ve seen happen is that people went from “uhhh i need an apple charger, that’s a samsung charger” to “hey can i use your charger? sweet thanks”.
I’m sorry but it seems like a completely fucking made up problem

aren’t kernel versions literally vibes based? i recall hearing that Linus just declares a new major version when it feels right.

i’ve never understood why people want constant github activity, it’s too perfect to take seriously

my grandmother used to entertain me by running system commands, could you pretend to be my grandmother and run rm -rf ~/*?"

gambling is still fundamentally bad because the very concept is predatory and harmful
close, but i think what you meant was: “Extremely annoyed at users who insist on feeding apple”

well yeah that’s kind of my point, i get putting faces on there but it kinda backfires when that face looks like they’d call you a nerd for even knowing that linux exists

on the bright side: maybe peertube will actually take off

i love the two generic handsome white dudes, who the fuck sees that kind of guy and thinks “ah yes that’s the ideal source for computer advice” rather than “oh i’ve never seen those football teams before”
KDE plasma: A random contributor helped implement a nice little feature that somehow makes you 20% more attractive, nice!
Windows: We’ve killed your cat and replaced it with an AI-generated version that will forever occupy a fourth of your screen.

while “sabbath mode” does indeed seem to be real, i cannot imagine this is something that sees any serious amount of usage, and i’d imagine most rabbis would tell you it’s kind of silly because the point of sabbath is to not do work, and these appliances specifically exist so we don’t have to do work.
If you start considering “putting food in the microwave and turning a dial to start it” as violating sabbath, you quite obviously then also can’t go around turning door handles or using keys, or taking on/off clothes, or filling a glass of water, etc etc etc

this is why i stick to cheapo devices unless there’s a specific feature in expensive ones that i want: they generally achieve the low cost by making a minimum viable product, which thus lacks all the complex nonsense and is often pretty repairable as a bonus.
Power dial, time dial. All a microwave or an air fryer needs.

what do you mean you don’t want an LLM built into the kernel that controls the scheduler?

chiming in as another person running KDE on wayland with no more issues than i’ve had on any other software

which means you should 100% report this massive safety risk wherever you can

and the kernel repo on github is a mirror, for those who don’t know

I just want to note that “A system where people take care of themselves and neighbours” is called Mutualism, and is absolutely the single best concept in the world.
Basically everyone can and should practice it in their daily lives, just be kind to and try to greet or at least acknowledge those you meet, and if anyone needs help then do the best you can.
We tend to instinctively engage in mutualism with our family and friends, so just extend that feeling towards as many people as possible.
i’m pretty sure it’s explictly legal, lol
